Why do Yoga ?

For a lot of people, when they think about Yoga they think of super bendy people, chanting, touching their head with their toes, whilst balancing on their arms!

The reality is Yoga is what you make it. It is time for you. Everyone's body is different, we all have different histories, different bone lengths so we all move differently.

I do not believe Yoga is an extension of a gymnasts mat.  It is about learning to listen to your body to allow it to stretch and move in a way that feels good for it.  It is not about trying to create fancy shapes for Instagram.

When people first come to Yoga it is normally to use it as a way to stretch but over time most people will also start to appreciate the effect it can have on your mind and your breath, allowing you to feel calmer, to breath deeper and to feel more content.

My classes are very much open to everyone; to those who are new to Yoga and those who have been practising a while. The most important thing is not whether you can touch your toes, it is about turning up on your mat.

Vinyasa Yoga

The flowing movement of Vinyasa means you flow from pose to pose, linking breath with movement. Vinyasa benefits include increased flexibility, strength, balance, mental focus, and can also help to burn some calories!

Each class has a different focus or theme but a typical Vinyasa class will flow through a sequence that is often repeated more than once, allowing you to familiarise yourself with the poses.

Vinyasa Classes are on Tuesday & Friday at 9.30am.

Yin Yoga

Yin is a lovely slow-paced, relaxing and nourishing practice. Releasing and opening the area between navel and knee, allowing the body and mind to find calm and balance, to unwind and restore itself. Yin is very much a practice based on acceptance, being passive and just allowing it to happen. Postures are held for longer than in a "normal" yoga class which gives you more time to explore the pose and to create a sense of deep relaxation.

I believe that everyone needs some Yin in their life to counterbalance the busyness that exists in our day to day lives.

Yin Classes are on Monday at 6pm and Wednesday at 9.30am

Yoga & Menopause

During our Menopause journey, Yoga can be a wonderfully comforting companion, and is also great at helping to relieve some of the more bothersome symptoms.

At this time in our life it is important we take some time out for ourselves, and Yoga is a way of doing that, spending time on our mat, relaxing, stretching, de-stressing .  Yoga is very much part of the Midlife reset, so that we can take the time to relax, to allow our bodies to absorb the changes that are going on internally , and allow us some headspace as we navigate our way through our menopause journey,

Zoom & In Studio

One of the positives that has come out of COVID is taking classes online. I love that I can have people from anywhere in the world joining our online community. It is so lovely to meet new people and to have those who normally only come to Burgau on holiday able to join in all year.

With Zoom we are still all able to have a chat as I love the community spirit that we create in classes and for me, it is so important to maintain this.

Yoga Classes  take place in the fit2lovelife studio in Burgau. It is a fully equipped private studio.

For anyone coming to a class in person, it is necessary to book in order to ensure there is enough space.

“I’ve been going to Ann’s yoga classes for over 5 years, both face to face and online. She is an experienced Ashtanga yoga teacher and combines her knowledge of yoga, nutrition and physiology to offer a holistic approach. Her classes are incredibly supportive but also good  fun. She offers choices for poses making the classes suitable from beginner to advanced.."

Ele Chronnell - UK & PT

"Ann's lessons are great! She welcomes everyone and she is great at adjusting the lessons to the needs of who's there. It's an open atmosphere where everyone is accepted whether you're a super yogi or a beginner. Ann is great at helping people gain confidence in their body and their practice. Very  recommended.."

Nienke Romkema , PT

“.Ann is an inspiring and approachable yoga teacher. She has been guiding me through my practice both in the studio and on line since I started her class not knowing anything about yoga 10 years ago. Her classes are are made up of people of different ages and experience but every one is made to feel welcome ,special and comfortable regardless of whether they are coming for the odd session or signing up for a plan . Thank you Ann”
