Coming Full Circle

One of the things I’ve learnt over the years is that life never stands still. We all evolve. Our priorities change, our bodies change, and sometimes the things we once thought were important make way for something even more meaningful.
Businesses are no different.
As I turn 58 this month, I’ve found myself reflecting on the journey of Fit2loveLife and where I want to take it over the next few years.
When I started my business back in 2004, I was a Personal Trainer. Helping people become stronger, move better and keep doing the things they love was, and still is, what I love most.
Yoga has been part of my own life since my 20s. It’s something I’ve always valued and, over the years, it’s become one of the ways I help people move better, improve mobility and find balance. I practise regularly and I genuinely can’t imagine my life without it. I’ll continue teaching my yoga classes because I know how much they help people improve their mobility, balance and overall wellbeing.
But as I’ve got older myself, something has become increasingly clear.
Strength really matters.
Not strength for the sake of lifting heavier weights or chasing personal bests, but strength that allows us to live the life we want. Strength to stay active, to enjoy our hobbies, to travel, to play golf, to carry the shopping without thinking about it, to get up and down from the floor with confidence, and to keep doing all the everyday things that help us remain independent.
The closer I get to 60, the more I realise that staying strong isn’t about looking a certain way. It’s about giving ourselves the best chance of continuing to enjoy life for as long as possible.
That’s one of the reasons I’ve decided to make a few changes to my timetable from August and stop the Friday yoga class.
As I’ve reflected on where Fit2loveLife is heading, I’ve realised that everything I’ve added over the years still comes back to the same foundation. Whether I’m working with someone one to one, helping a golfer move more freely, coaching someone online or teaching a yoga class, the goal has always been the same.
To help people become stronger, move better and keep doing the things they love. Personal Training has never stopped being at the heart of what I do. The other services are simply different ways of helping people achieve that.
I’ll still be teaching yoga because I believe it plays an important role in helping us move well, improve mobility, find balance and slow down in a busy world. But I also know that where I can make the biggest difference is by spending more of my time helping people build strength, improve mobility and maintain their independence through Personal Training.
In many ways, it feels as though I’ve come full circle.
Not because I’m leaving yoga behind. Far from it.
But because after more than 22 years of working with clients, countless hours of learning, thousands of Personal Training sessions and many years & hours of teaching yoga, I’ve become even more certain about what helps people age well.
It’s not one type of exercise.
It’s finding the right combination of movement for you, at your stage of life, as everyone is different and our needs are different and change as we age,
For some people that might be one to one Personal Training. For others it might be combining strength training with yoga. For golfers, it might be improving mobility, balance and power to keep enjoying the game for years to come.
There isn’t a one size fits all approach, and that’s always been my philosophy.
As Fit2loveLife evolves, my aim is becoming even clearer. I want to help people stay strong, move well and continue doing the things they love for as long as possible.
Helping people become fit to love life and continue to be able to do the things they enjoy as we all get a little older !
